MY STORY & PHILOSOPHY

Ginny - photo about me.JPG

I have been painting, drawing and creating ever since I could hold a pencil. As is often the case, life got in the way of my creativity for quite a while although I always managed to keep an element of practice going. Now I'm loving the opportunity to spend quality time on my craft.  I am really enjoying exploring paint, texture and colour and always like to push and develop my boundaries. I love experimenting with colour and prefer to use vibrant colours and strong brushstrokes in my work.

I am largely self taught but I have been fortunate to attend a variety of training courses run by some of the country’s leading portrait artists. Essentially, I believe being an artist is about practice and allowing yourself the creative space to find your own way and style.

Oil paint is a fabulous medium to work in.  I enjoy the flexibility, challenge and mess of it. However, I can work in any medium including pencil, charcoal, acrylics and watercolour. I have always been drawn to faces and people, they fascinate me and it is what I like to paint. Capturing and interpreting that likeness and personality is endlessly exciting and rewarding. I also enjoy painting animals and nature. Other passions include music (especially anything with a Latin rhythm), Spanish culture, walking barefoot, dance, flowers, a sunny day and beauty in all its many forms.

My website is not fully comprehensive so if there is something you like, do get in touch as there may be other similar pieces.

Similarly, if you are interested in commissioning either a portrait or pet portrait, do contact me.  I am always happy to have visitors to my studio by prior arrangement to show you my work and have an informal discussion.
